The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office provides 9-1-1 intake, teletype and communication services for the City of Perry and all unincorporated areas of Taylor County. Our communication center operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week, every day of the year and we proudly serve communities such as but not limited to, Lake Bird, Shady Grove, Eridu, Iddo, Boyd, Nut-All-Rise, Spring Warrior, Foley, Fenholloway, Keaton Beach, Deckle Beach, Cedar Island, Jug Island, Salem, and Steinhatchee.

The Sheriff’s communication center processed an estimated 48,621  non-emergency telephone calls and  12,566 911 calls from January 2016 to January 2017. In addition to the incoming phone calls, the communication center also handles an average of 230,000 radio transmissions each year.

The teletype and communications officers operate the computer systems that link the Sheriff’s Office to the state and federal computer systems. On average these officers will process approximately 100,000 requests per year from local law enforcement officers who are seeking information on missing persons, lost or stolen auto tags, stolen vehicles, driver’s license status and stolen articles.

The Communications employees participate in a rigorous training process which includes a  10 week online class done through Florida State College of Jacksonville, as well as on the job training that is done in conjunction with the online class. The entire training process takes approximately three months. All Communications employees must pass a state examination administered by the State of Florida’s Department of Health.
